Affirmation was written in 2022 during intensive periods of development for the solo exhibition and performance series Bright Dynasty. Bright Dynasty is about an ever expanding sense of being at home on different scales, spectrums and frequencies, within the universe, landscape, architectures and dwellings, with other people, ecologies, within oneself and beyond. The exhibition was presented across 2022-23 by Hypha Studios and London Borough of Waltham Forest, g39, Cardiff, Phoenix Art Space, Brighton, and Hypha Studios Regent Street during Frieze London. Listen to Affirmation below. Music: This is how we walk on the moon, Arthur Russell; “Instrumentals” Volume 2 – Part 1, Arthur Russell; Paumalu, Mike Cooper; Nami, Meitei; Belisia, Ignacio Maria Gomes; The Sun in September, Matthew Halsall; Yaral Sa Doom, Wau Wau Collective; Umdali Sibusile Xaba, Nafatli, Fakazile Nkosi, AshK; Thanking the Earth, Carlos Niño & Friends, Nate Mercereau, Sam Gendel.
Affirmation
An orb, a crease, a wheel, a step.
A ladder, a window, a pattern.
Sliding under frayed edges, like a hitch.
Gathering like rain. Dripping towards the centre. Settling on shores, washing with the moon. Flourishing, nestling in tides. Passing vapours lip to lip. Piercing gloamy depths, an open window widening open: life slicing through.
Fibres forming through vast and subtle breathing, bones smoothly tumbling forwards, mountains rising from the sea of every cell.
Gath
ering like rain.
Rocks slide stretching around.
Swoop the loop.
Mountains gliding, skin swimming over bony landmarks. Touch blurring, marking time in grazes, scrapes, trips and falls
along,
around
the far horizon.
Branches
falling
in
black
fields, Earth body is round (in) finite sunrise.
Shade and shadow — a human life span full to bursting, pouring back into blue-white-yellow morning, soaking
to the marrow,
evaporating in yellow-pink-green sunset. Each breath a life
and death,
pealing,
striking lightning in infinite sunset skies.
Birthing.
The first journey from wonder to
wander.
Deep geological tissue: fascial networks: inner landscapes.
Holding totalities together on Earth:
deep seas and spacious skies, majestic fires
sacred ground.
Blooming in bioalchemical, crystalline formations,
cloaked in the warp and weft of bone and flesh,
tread.
Accumulating energy between the frequencies of naked physics in fields of love.
Refract
disperse
blaze.
Moulding, binding securely side by side by side,
by side.
Cleaving to the spirit, all else can be untied.
Engineering memories:
dreaming.
Rooting, shooting, flowering, yesterday and now and tomorrow
unwinding: sublime
instability.
Playing in planetary patterns, feeling forces fully in continuum
lunating,
nutating,
and diving and falling open,
a trillion windows opening.
Tread. Sentient materiality glimmering.
