Glow home (2024)
Glow Home (2024) is a permanent public artwork for Beckton Globe Library designed by Adam Moore. Created in collaboration with communities and technicians living and working in Newham the collection of five neon and timber sculptures explore light, text and public space. Glow home takes inspiration from Glenn Ligon’s Untitled (Bruise/Blues) (2014), Tracey Emin’s I want my time with you (2018), and Nanda Vigo’s Lo zoo di Enzo (2020), the light installation designed for Enzo Mari. Influencing the commission was Mari’s philosophy of learning by doing which was expanded into a facilitated socially engaged design process involving communities at the Globe.

Adam Moore, A date with knit and natter at Beckton Globe Library, April 2024.
Meeting regularly with Forever Young, Knit and Natter, Lego Club, and library staff Adam learned a lot about these peoples’ experiences and what they valued about Beckton Globe. Adam invited people to share their reflections by drawing and writing using soft pastel and paper. This practice gave people the opportunity to imagine the kind of luminosity that Adam’s public artwork might take and these drawings were used by Adam to design the artwork.

Building on his design skills developed through commissions, fellowships, and residencies Adam wanted to create something to show people outside what Beckton Globe Library means to the people who use it, attract and invite people to visit, have a positive impact in the environment with communities and local people passing by, and shine a light on collective and individual experiences within the local community. A redesign and revision of Americana neon signs of doughnuts and coffee cups these signs and symbols reflect the different dimensions of Beckton Globe Library as seen by their community. Made by hand from reclaimed timber and more energy efficient and sustainable materials each design is a symbol, affirmation and wish
for the growing communities in and around Beckton Globe Library.
